"Wise I"

WHYS (Nobody Knows
The Trouble I Seen)
Traditional

If you ever find
yourself, some where
lost and surrounded
by enemies
who won't let you
speak in your own language
who destroy your statues
& instruments, who ban
your omm bomm ba boom
then you are in trouble
deep trouble
they ban your
own boom ba boom
you in deep deep
trouble

humph!

probably take you several hundred years
to get
out!

this is one of his poems

HERE IS ANOTHER POEM BY HIM
Ka 'Ba

A closed window looks down
on a dirty courtyard, and black people
call across or scream or walk across
defying physics in the stream of their will

Our world is full of sound
Our world is more lovely than anyone's
though we suffer, and kill each other
and sometimes fail to walk the air

We are beautiful people
with African imaginations
full of masks and dances and swelling chants

with African eyes, and noses, and arms,
though we sprawl in grey chains in a place
full of winters, when what we want is sun.

We have been captured,
brothers. And we labor
to make our getaway, into
the ancient image, into a new

correspondence with ourselves
and our black family. We read magic
now we need the spells, to rise up
return, destroy, and create. What will be

the sacred words?

Imamu Amiri Baraka

This is one of the most moving, touching emotionally charged pieces of work that I have read in a long time. And you are asking me to submit poems written by other people in this style? i could go thru literally hundreds of stuff i have written and even without trying to be like amiri baraka i could not come close to what this individual has accomplished from a literary point of view.

I am not that informed or smart. But this piece you shared was so poignant. It contained so much pain I have not thought about or had to deal with. I am just glad I read it just to remind myself of how narrow and self-centered my world has become.

thanks for posting this. and my apologies for not helping to answer your question.

what a fine poet amiri baraka is.
