Why do the chinese say "la" or "liao" at the end of their sentences??

Why do the chinese say "la" or "liao" at the end of their sentences??
i have seen and heard chinese say that at the end of their sentence... and sometimes its "wah"

what does this mean??

"liao" means somefink like "already".
"la" has just become a habit,but it does mean something,depending on the sentence.
