Question:

Lovers of literature or philosophy--what is a beautiful or powerful symbol to you?

I have a website with free symbolism and philosophy essays, and I'm thinking of starting a new website devoted to interpreting the relationship between meaning and function amongst artwork, philosophy, and some types of inventions.

Various things have meanings to different people. Secret societies take certain attributes as symbols. Authors can create powerful emotions in a reader by tweaking quasi-conscious relationships between meanings.

If you imagined an imaginary secret society, what sort of attributes would it have? Or, when you read powerful literature, are there themes that strike you as beautiful or you keep returning to? Or is there an idea in your life that has struck you as particularly perplexing, that you can visualize?

I see these three things as being related. Basically, I'm just looking for a list of symbols that have meaning or power to you.
