Question:

Macro Filters Or Macro Lenses? What do you prefer for close up pictures?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

Macro lenses. I used to have a 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor that was just unbelievably sharp. Filters are sort of so-so in terms of quality, although the expensive multielement Nikon and Canon ones which are made to match a specific focal length of lens are pretty good. They work better with some lenses than others.

You should consult the forums on photo.net if you really want good photography advice. My two cents: if you're going to do a lot of macro photography and you've got the money, buy a macro lens. If you're just going to do a little, or money is tight, but filters.
