My happiest alone times are walking in the woods near my house. There are miles of trails that wind along the edge of a river canyon. One trail follows the river's edge as closely as possible, dropping down into the canyon where geography permits to follow the river's sandy shore, then scooting back up to the canyon's lip and goating along the edge offering views of the misty green water below. Here surrounded by moss shrouded maples, hemlocks and cottonwoods, the hiss and rattle of the water as it slices away at the canyon floor and the soft rhythm of the first warm rain of the year dripping from newly minted spring green trees. |
