Yes I do write poems and have for many years. In general almost all of the poetry contests are a rip off. It does not cost anything to enter the contest usually but you do have to buy their book at exorbitant prices.

Sometimes local poetry groups will sponsor contests but in my area these are dominated by left wing liberal screwy types who consider salt of the earth poetry and romantic poetry.....which is what I write.......as beneath them.

So I would suggest you try to find a group of poets who have the same interests as you and there are many. I am a member of the Cowboy Poets Society and a religious poetry group.

Finally, no I have not enjoyed any of the contests I have entered. The commerical sites tell everyone their's is the best to get them to buy the book. And the elitist snobs PO me.
