Question:

Need help finding and determining if poetic devices I found are viable, Please Help!?

Alright I'm doing A poem called The Negro's Complaint by William Cowper and need to find as many poetic devices in the poem as I can.

I've found these so far.... rhyme and choice of diction

Mostly I'm not sure if the ones I found are viable like....
"By the miseries that we tasted", imagery?
"Over the raging billows borne." personification?
"Speaking from his throne, the sky" metaphor?
I need help if not finding poetic devices in the poem (which would be helpful) but only in answering whether my above examples pass off as being examples of those specific poetic devices.

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

"By the miseries that we tasted", imagery? YES - imagery is based on the senses, in this case, taste.
"Over the raging billows borne." personification? YES - billows do not have human emotion like rage
"Speaking from his throne, the sky" metaphor? YES - comparing the sky to a throne, and since there is no "like, as or than" you have a metaphor not a simile

Good job.
