Don't make it a poem----the most special thing my son EVER did for me was an essay he wrote for his 3rd degree black belt test in Martial arts... I wasn't the only one who cried when it was read... feel free to use any of the ideas I am about to give you here....if your mom is ANYTHING like I am--she will be so VERY HAPPY especially when you give her maybe ONE ROSE after reading your "essay"... ok, here goes.....

Everything I have ever been in my life, I owe to my mom.
She stood by me when times were difficult and cheered me on when times were good... She gave me unconditional love, never and taught ME exactly what that means---to love without expectations, to give of oneself without expecting something in return. My mom has made many sacrafices for me along the way----wanting something for herself but giving it up in favor of making sure I had what I needed....When I was sick, she tended to me and made my worse pain better. There were times when SHE was sick that she still managed to be my mom----it's a position that is 24/7....whether she was sick or tired, she was ALWAYS doing something for me and my family..... She disciplined me when I needed it even if I didn't think I did. (which was ALWAYS)... but she was never too harsh or too painful and there was always forgiveness for whatever I did...... My mom was my chauffure, maid, cook, tutor, cheerleader, life guide and friend.....I KNOW I thanked her off and on for all the things she has done for me, but today, I want to let EVERYONE here know just how much I LOVE my mom for being my MOM... She may never truly realize just how happy I am to be HER daughter... but mom, I AM and I will ALWAYS be.

You can use that--expand on it or just use it as a guide for what you will write....
