I need help finding the tone and examples of imagery in this poem by Langston Hughes. If someone could at least help me interperet the poem that would be nice

Its called Quiet Girl

I would liken you
To a night without stars
Were it not for your eyes.
I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
were it not for your songs

He is setting you up for the imagery in the very first line. "Liken" means "compare." Does it make more sense now?
