Poems can inspire and make us think about what it means to be a member of the human race. By just spending a few minutes reading a poem each day, new worlds can be revealed.
Have you ever had a misunderstanding with someone or thought that he or she didn't have anything in common with you? Have you ever felt lost, alone, neglected, or have you missed someone, terribly? Have you ever wished people could understand where you were coming from?

Well, poetry, a voice heard by ears that care, can help. Poetry helps your body release tension...it helps you relax your mind. So, instead of feeling like you are spinning and the world isn't, you can sit back and watch it all. If you are upset and you start writing everything that comes to mind, it's refreshing...it's like putting your soul through a car wash. When you are on overload, instead of just trying to keep on working yourself into the ground, you can balance things out by releasing some of the nagging feelings or problems you have. Once you spill out lots of the jumble in your brain, your head isn't as crowded - you can think straight.

This is why so many writers and artists are remembered by almost everyone - looking at their work is like translating the words, or shapes, or colors, into the artist or poet's feelings, and then translating those into your own life. The few people that produce works like that are never forgotten. Once YOU are relaxed, things are easier.

Another great thing about poetry is how it lets people see through the eyes of anyone...even their so-called "enemy". Poetry puts your observations, opinions, and even train of thought out there. Once people see how you think, they might have a feeling of why ou say what you say, do what you do, or react like you do. This can prevent misunderstandings. Poetry can make it easier to step into the shoes of someone else, which is the key to happiness.
