Definately art imitates life. I think the type of art you like says a lot about you as a person, even as far as the colors used too. I'm a geometrical-abstract artist,and I use a lot of bright colors and often colors people don't think of putting together. So, the bright colors say I'm a happy person,which I am; i try to see the bright side of things,which I do; and then with the colors I put together, i do often see things in a way that people wouldn't have seen.
