Question:

Is it true that art gallery owners don't like to sell the work of artists who have graduated from art school?

Only non-formally trained artists? Why?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

If you mean that gallery owners prefer to make their money from the work of non-graduates, then I would imagine that this is due to the homogenization, by formal art education, of potentially inventive, artistic minds, not to mention the academization of art which such an education, by definition, seeks to effect.

It is important to learn the history of art, but the creation of art cannot be taught, since it is finally nothing more than a type of perception.

Therefor, it is perhaps the case that gallery owners have seen enough original, inspired work to feel disapproval for formally "trained" artists, and thus prefer that their sales help artists-born realize some financial success.
