Question for bible lovers...?

Can anyone explain why the bible has what seems to be many contradictions? The Old Testament says things like divorce is permitted, take an eye for an eye, to name a couple. Is the bible really the perfect word of God?

As an example, in the Old Testament it does say "an eye for an eye." However in the new testament it says"turn the other cheek." Jesus came not to condemn the world, but to save it.
