What is the name of art or whatever that video game designers use? Is it called graphic designing?

I am a rising junior in High School, and my dream is to make video games. I love games, and I am interested in them. I will probably go to ECPI CC, and take the "Game Simulation and Programming" program, but I want to know what designers use, so that if someone asked me what I wanted to do when I grow up, I wouldn't say "make video games" and sound like a five year old. It's called CGI (computer generated imagery) - my ex used to do that for Disney in California. They use a program called Maya or Softimage XSI on a very powerful computer system. It's 3D modeling via computer graphics.
