I want to work for a theatre?

backstage- I live in London.
Any advice?

First you need to decide exactly what you want to do backstage - set designer, costume designer, stage manager, lighting/sound technician, etc. Theres a whole lot going on. Take advantage of any local theatres that do pre or post show tours. Ask lots of questions.

See if there's a local am dram group that needs some help, its a good way to get started. Most theatres are charities, and some of the smaller touring companies often appreciate someone who'll lend a hand as a volunteer.

Depending what you want to do find training. Colleges and Universitys offer courses, "Drama" degrees for instance often include stage management and lighting design. Not sure what there is in the way of in-house training in London.

Its probably worth you looking at ITC (Http://www.itc-arts.org/) for more information. Or The Stage newspaper (http://www.thestage.co.uk/) may give you some ideas.

Hope some of this helps, and good luck with it :)
