One on war and society would be topical, Here's a sample outline:

WAR AND SOCIETY

Wars have had a profound impact on the ways societies have been structured, and at times, have even determined whether or not individual societies would survive. Despite war's crucial importance to societies, however, it often violates the very rules these societies use to govern themselves and their citizens. Combat, for example, has often been seen as outside of the normal constraints that societies place on their members. In wartime men, women and children are hurt and killed. At the same time, most societies have deeply rooted prohibitions against violence and murder. War, and the human experience of war, is often antithetical to what we consider to be essential to human society. In this workshop we will begin by exploring the organization of war itself, addressing issues such as the rules governing war, the experiences of battle, the organization of armies, and conceptions of military leadership. Then we turn to how social categories like race, class, gender, and sexuality have influenced and been influenced by wars. We will focus largely on the American experience, but will use the experiences of other cultures when they provide the best available examples for our discussion and analysis. This workshop will deal with issues of violence and hatred as well as addressing race, class and gender.

That might cover too much, though - how long is your workshop?
