Question:

Can you help me think of some possible interview questions?

I'm going to have a club interview soon, so I want to be prepared as much as possible because I don't want to give a nervous impression. Can you help me think of some questions such as: What are your hobbies? Your talents? What can you contribute? What does school and community service mean to you? etc..

thanks

These are the ones I've seen most often:

1. What are you looking for in this organization/membership? (this usually shows up for job interviews)
Key: They want to see how closely your answer resembles the slot they're offering, without you being blatantly trying to tell them what they want to hear. Just find the actual positives about this membership - that way you're telling the truth.

2. What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
Key: Honest, but not repulsive.

3. Why should we accept you over other candidates?
Key: This is a stupid question that no one can really answer. I think they ask this to make you talk about how awesome you are, or something. I try to point out genuine selling points without actually answering the questions.

4. Questions about your life in general (family, where're you're from, etc.) If you happen to know people in common be careful what opinion you express (if they're your friend, the people interviewing you might hate them,or you might end up insulting one of their friends).

5. Why are you interested in being in the club?

6. Questions about your life goals in general/your big picture life.

7. Mostly they'll probably ask questions about what matters to you, since they're trying to form a picture of you. Most people like to stay away from politics, religion and any other subject discussion of which could turn ugly. Depends on what kind of club this is.

8. Who is a person in your life that you admire most/has influenced you and why?

9. Who is your favorite author and why? (yes, this was a real question from a real interview)

10. What are your areas of academic interest/specialization and why do they interest you?

11. Last point: if you list hobbies, be prepared to have an interviewer who is an expert in that area (it happens).

Hope it helps.
