Question:

Art Teacher Help?

I have an art teacher who is rubbish at his job. The head has had many complaints about him and his teaching. He only helps the people he likes and he grades your work without even looking at it. There was obviously something that happened because today he was asking everyone if they were OK and if they needed help. However, when I asked him if my fish was good (which I thought was OK, but not that brill and could have had some improvement) he looked at it really funny and then said that he loved it and it was really good. I do not think that he was telling the truth - What should I do?

Your fish may have really connected with him. Asking for a more detailed critique - or even, what he sees is good, and what he sees as bad, might really be a good idea. He sounds like he is worried about saying anything at all - you don't mention the class atmosphere, or whether he is a good artist - so maybe he got shot down somewhere along the line, and is just trying to get through the day. A question that is not challenging, but respects his opinion might just make for a much better art class in future. And to have a good art class is worth trying to find out what makes this guy tick.
