Alone By Edgar Allan Poe From childhoods hour i hav not been As others were-I have not seen as others saw- i could not bring my passions from a comon spring from the same source i have not taken my sorrow- i could not awaken my heart to joy at the same tone and all i lov'd -i lov'd alone then-in my childhood-in the dawn of a most stormy life-was drawn from evr'y depth of good and ill the mystery which binds mes still from the torrent, or the mountain from the red cliff of the mountain fromt the sun that round me roll'd in its autumn tint of gold from the lightning in the sky as it pass'd me flying by from the thunder, and the storm and the cloud that took the from (when the rest of heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view

Hey OOCC,

"...this poem was somewhat based on the death of his wife Virginia. He had lost so many of his family to tuberculosis, and then her. Without her, Poe was forced to face his demons. "Of a demon in my view."

However, the demons can refer to his drinking problem. He would drink himself into an oblivion on several occasions. The darkness spoke of in this poem can contribute to the failure of Poe, as viewed by himself. No I do not think that Poe was a failure, but through out his life he did. He never actually felt successful or that he accomplished anything.

I also believe that this poem shows that during his life Poe had always felt somewhat alone. Even during his childhood years, he was different."
