Why are archetects designing such crap square-box building to live in?

where are the futuristic buildings i saw on sci-fi covers 30 years ago? i want to live in fantastic place.....my home town has only one even moderately inspiring building in it.
were all the current crop of archetects brought up in dismal soviet tower blocks or what?

I think the fanstastic place will be for you to live is NewOrleans Because we have the best of the best you can not find no better City than NewOrleans to live fanstastic we have stuff that some City don't have.
