Question:

Why are literary devices like allusion, oxymorons, hyperbole, & etc. so important in literature?

You are missing the point here!

The devices came FIRST through writers' skills. LATER, as other people (some of whom may have been writers) started studying writing and discussing reasons why some works were better, the "devices" you list above were "discovered" and named. The writing is what is important., NOT the "devices". Some authors use allusion, hyperbole, etc. to great effect. Others don't. Some just tell a great story. The devices are only important in discussing, dissecting and learning about written pieces of art!
