How can I bind a thick paperback book to protect it?

I bought a textbook on ebay. I really wanted a hardback for durability, but found a softcover for a good price. It is a thick book. Is there a way to put a hardcover over the paperback to protect it? If there is, where can I find supplies and how do I do it?

Get some clear adhesive backed plastic and laminate it. I used to be able to get it in the shelf liner section but it hasn't been there regularly. I'd look to office supply stores.
