It's really all a matter of degree. Even a highly structured, individually determined piece of art must, in the end, be intrepreted or consumed by an observer, who, more often than not, will generate a personal reaction that is often a bit idiosyncratic, if not bizarre. (Whenever I hear the odd interpretations that people read into poetry or song lyrics, I am breathless with amazement, if not astonishment).

The risk multiplies in any actively collaborative form. You may have your participants do or think things that you never would have throught of, much less approved of. If you are comfortable with a great deal of risk and lack of predicability, then there is something to be said for it. If you want to hold the reins a little bit more than that, go with something a little more pre-determined that leave perhaps a little less wriggle room for the audience.
