Poem - 'A Little Scrap of Paper' . Does anybody know the words to this poem?

It was taught to my wife's mother by her father who fought in both the Boar War and the First World war so its origin is unclear.
It is about a scrap of paper taken from a dead or dying soldier and proved to be a note from his young daughter. (A real tier-jerker I understand)
Unfortunately the words were never written down.
