Question:

How do you keep it up?

I'd like to be a writer but I know discipline is a big factor and I often just don't feel like doing it, or have no ideas. What do you do to keep up discipline and write regularly?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

Don't wait for some divine intervention or muse for inspiration. These are fictional entities. To get ideas, try freewriting. Set a time limit and just write down anything and everything that comes to mind. At the end of the time read what you've written. You'd be surprised how many ideas for short stories or essays you can pull from a freewriting exercise. Just write everyday no matter how much or how little you actually get down on paper. Keep a journal, record daily activities, whatever. These will give you a record of possible material to use later and will help broaden your vocabulary and writing skills. Good luck!
