The House on Mango Street "spirit of place" art...?

i need to make a piece of art, any medium (which means i can do anything from a play to a painting-it has to be visual though.),
that shows the spirit of place in "the house on mango street" by sandra cisneros.
i know this is my homework, but i just need ideas or suggestions as to what i should do because i really have no idea.

When I think of House on Mango street, I think of bright colors and Mexican art. Consider making a construction paper collage or something similar. Perhaps you could even make a diorama:

For inspiration, google Mexican artists like Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo (you thought Esperanza's life was tough, look up a bio of this woman!), Rufino Tamayo, and one of my lesser-known favorites, Ettore "Ted" de Grazia.
