How do I put together a benefit event?
I want to put together an event for the local animal shelters and organizations in my area. I would love to have a venue where we can have artists, musicians, etc but all the monmey goes to animal needs (blankets, food, shelters) etc. I would like there to be adoptions going on and maybe the entrance fee is a bag of dog or cat food? Blankets or toys? Leashes and medications?
How do I organize this? Is it a good idea?

first of all you need extra hand, people to help you out with different tasks such as advertising the event (so people can come), getting the stuff for free or sponsored, think in who would like it to be there as companies and sell the idea.. in my country at least beers and sodas are always willing to help you out in exchange that they can sell their drinks at the event. Besides, when it comes to benefit events, check if you can benefit the companies by reducing tax.
Almost any musician would love to play in a big crowd, specially if they want to be heard, contact them and sell them as well the idea of the benefit, its basically make people fell in love with your plan, be secure and confident at all times and well organised.
