Question:

How do you interpret Fire and Ice by Robert Frost?

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I would say that it is an expression of calm resignation to the dire promises of fate foretold.

Some people would find distress in predictions of the end times. Frost with his rather simple and slightly sarcastic tones tells up that if it happens, it could not be more than we deserve; and that the punishment of fire or ice are really no worse than the sins they repay.

This poem is all about tone.
