Question:

Finding of St. Paul's sarcophagus in the Cathedral of St. Paul in Rome, can this be true?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:

A sarcophagus has been found. There will be no way to tell who it belonged to, though. During the late Roman period, emperors were always demanding to know the exact locations of key events in biblical history. This led them accepting many dubious local tales handed down for generations as fact; and the location of St. Paul's burial place may be among them.

The mother of Constantine was one such hunter of holy sites. And because of her, the location of Mt. Sinai was located in what came to be called the "Sinai Peninsula." In fact, best evidence suggests it to be located in present day Saudi Arabia.

We have to be careful about these old places. Yes there is a sarcophagus; but for all we know, it contains the bones of a murderer rather than St. Paul. There's no way to know where Paul was executed, or what happened to his body afterward.
