The HVAC duct can be routed through closets and other chaseways. I kills airflow though. I have heard of some contractors using high static units and pvc duct so that it would fit between studs. I always walk away from split level house bids because the customer is never happy with airflow from these installations. Make sure you research the installers in your area and find one who has installed units in split level houses.
