Which poets have been the most important in the development of poetry? Why do you think so? (No shakespeare)

I need them for a project in English class. Which poet would it be easiest to write a reasearch paper on?

I like the Gothic Romantic poets for their constant questioning of Divinity and Man, sin and redemption, evil and hope. Try any of the following: Blake, Coleridge, Shelley, Byron, Keats. While there are certainly different movements to explore, I find this one so intriguing for how familiar the sentiments expressed feel. Poetry has moved in so many different directions that to pin the development on, say five of the "most influential" would be silly and simplistic.
