Question:

Is correct meter always necessary in poetry?

What if it interferes with rhythm? What about versatility, creativity and poetic license? Are there no poets who tossed the rules and regs to the wind and said to hell with it? I am very curious about this. Thanks!

Thanks you guys. I thought so, too. In my opinion that's what wrong with creativity. Schools replace it with red marks. Thanks again.

Correct meter is not necessary in poetry. You learn about the "correct rhythm" because its hard to teach free verse. Free Verse has no meter and sometimes doesn't rhyme. There are even poets who write in paragraph form. Poetry is an art form, so make it how you want.
