Story ideas- have a start but stuck-help please.?

I have a basic idea but am stuck after a bit- It is in someones dream so some weird stuff can happen- I want it to be like an adventure sort of- he sees something happen but doesnt see the person's face- somehow has to go through his dream to figure it out- i'd like it to be a story that makes you think

Make a string of clues in your story -- clues are always interesting. The faceless person can leave clues wherever he/she goes -- like the stub of a train ticket which will take the protagonist to a remote village. A prescription indicating that the unidentified person needs special treatment and so can be tracked to a particular medical facility. A limp. A characteristic habit like always wearing a head-covering -- a cap, a hat, a scarf, etc. But as the protagonist follows the clues, he gets more and more entangled in danger, until he comes face to face with the mystery man and is surprised to see someone he knows so well, and who he would trust... but then a greater mystery is revealed behind the reason the mysterious man committed the crime, perhaps to prevent a crime even greater!
