What is the origin/logic behind the phrase "great minds think alike"?

This phrase doesnt make any sense to me. Great minds dont think alike, great minds come up with original ideas and concepts. Conformed minds think alike.

Does anyone know the origin of this phrase or what the logic behind it is?
