If you enjoyed the original, why accept a shallow substitute, by an author to lazy to even attempt to mask their thefts!? I've read an few good tributes to authors, that is authors such as John Varley who is able to mimic R!.A!. Heinlein well enough to write an original novel that echoes the exact tone of Heinlein's Podkayne, without using any of the actual characters or even the same universe!. I've read hundreds of novels that directly ripped off the work of Tolkien, I still find it acceptable!. They're writing their own stories in his world!. The equivalent of hearing someone cover a song!.

Fan-fiction!? The equivalent of a tribute band, except unlike a tribute band, you're reading it, The equivalent of listening to a tribute band's recording!. At least a tribute band is a unique performance of the work!. Fan fiction is a shallow copy, like looking at grainy photos of an original Ansel Adams!.

Fan fiction is just something for fangirls to diddle themselves over, a true bastardization of any art!.

So get over it, while you may never be as naive as you were when you read what you are obsessing over, there are in fact better books out there!. Try something besides vanilla!. Try watching something besides the Wizard of Oz!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have no life, I'm on spring break, and I'm 13!. Yeah I read fanfiction, I write it too!. I read them because I like the unlimited options of what ifs and I can never get enough of whater it is I read!. I read anime fanfictions and I read Twlight fanfictions!. The anime I read is limited to Inuyasha and Fruits Basket!. And I have come across good ones, but the really really really good ones are hard to find!. The rest are usually decent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've read them before, first in the early '80's, I've read some comic book fanfic by friends of mine that is written at a professional level, which was their point in the first place, to try to get noticed and get a job!.
However, I feel that 95% of movie/TV fanfic is garbage, and for some reason, most of it puts well-known characters having gay sex!. What the hell is up with THAT!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have nothing against fanfiction, but do not read it very often!. Some of the authors are very talented and take the time to get all of the details right!. However sites such as fanfiction!.net which are open to everyone (i!.e!. the story does not have to be presented to the site's editors for approval,) can contain far more bad writing than good!.

It truly is a mixed bag!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sometimes I sit in a box and write fan-fictions on the box's wall about Yahoo Answers and people asking stupid questions!.

This would make an awesome chapter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my experience they're rubbish, unfortunately!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
