Meyer didn't have enough power to properly write the series in which she attempted, I feel!. Her word choice was poor and she obsessively recycled words so often that it became tiresome; we get it, Meyer, Edward was "God-like" and his skin was "marble"!. She had nothing else; and considering how many words were jammed into that many hundreds of pages, reading her work became painful!.
The plot line crumbles at the slightest prob!. Between disco-ball vampires, fake werewolves, and strange mortals, it all began not making sense!. There was, in truth, nearly zero plot in the first book; Meyer basically slapped on a conflict at the end because she probably realized that, "oh shoot, a book needs a conflict!." The first few hundred pages are of Bella staring awkwardly at Edward!.
Tacking on to the plot line problem, Meyer basically went against herself on the last book!. She basically had no plot, not even to begin with, but, at the chance of another wad of cash and under the pressure of fans, she slapped together the last book, Breaking Headboards!. (I mean!.!.!.Breaking Dawn!.) Throughout the series, she managed to build together solid enough explanations of the fantasy world in which she had created, only for the reader to discover that the entire time, she was messily building a pi?ata; come the last book, she whacked her creation and the entire ordeal of it exploded!. In a more literal sense, she contradicted every single thing in which she told the reader; making it that none of it, when applied the laws in which she herself had created, make any relevant sense by the end!.
More importantly was the lack of properly fleshed characters!. The one thing that I love in books the most -- and the thing that I focus a lot of energy on as an author myself -- is the characters!. Characters, when properly designed and puppeted, if you will, become realistic and enjoyable; we can easily identify their 'character'istics and they can easily be portrayed as real people!. Rowling, as an example of a good author, was successful at that and created fully developed manikins of sorts, inside which was the complexity and reality that we find within ourselves!. Meyer, in comparison, created cardboard cut-outs; there was nothing to her characters!. Bella was a needy girlfriend, Edward was too perfect to be real, and Jacob was unbelievable!. The problem, though, came in the ending; Meyer became too attached and sought a happy ending for the entire cast of her creations; thus, an undesirable and unrealistic ending in which I am extremely disappointed in!.
Not to mention, there weren't very good messages throughout the books!. As an example, the second book basically taught girls that men are the center of our world and without them we collapse entirely!.

Dean Koontz!. Alice Sebold!. Ellen Hopkins!. Now those authors can write descriptive and beautiful pieces of literature!. Meyer doesn't even come near stride with these people!. I mean, I nearly hurled Breaking Dawn into the campfire when I read it; I was baffled and frustrated by the words in which Meyer wrote!.

Thank you for being respectful and tolerant; it's a nice change from the screaming fan girls I've seen on here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ok I like Twilight, but I also can say that I do not think it was very well written!. The plot is cute and fast moving and the book is entertaining, yes, but compared to other novels it really doesn't compare!.

The story and dialogue is cheesy and predictable!. The literary Devices like symbolism are weak!. The plot and characters would be of little interest to most people who are not teenage girls, therefore the book doesn't appeal to a very wide audience!. Classic novels are much more in depth and have themes that are universal, so all people and all generations can relate!.

I feel like the reason so many people are all "Twilight Sucks" is because readers enjoy the book and then automatically say that Stephanie Meyer is an amazing writer, which is not necessarily true!. If Twilight was not so popular I think anti-twilighters would just regard it as an average teen book!. It is just as good as if not better that many teen books written today, but compared to classic, its not very good!.

I hope that makes some sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was horribly written!. There were about 354289356 adjectives per sentence!. She used the word 'incredulous' a LOT!. So much that it got really annoying!. And every encounter with Edward and Bella is the same! And it always involves one of them 'cringing' or 'wincing'!.

And there's really no character development beyond Edward and Bella, and even then it's weak!.
Not to mention all the scientific things!. The big one everyone seems to be bitching out is her whole 'vampires have more chromosomes than humans' thing, which makes NO sense, because all vampires used to be humans!. She tries to explain everything away with science, like the sparkly skin junk, but it makes no sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm tired so I won't go into all of it in detail, but the basics are:

cliches
purple prose
unbelievable characters
characters with no real depth(1 dimensional)
lack of plot(until page 430, which is unacceptable!. Romance is not a plot)
She can't write like a teenager, made her first person Bella unbelievable!.
Mary/Gary Sue leads(Bella and Edward)
Her repetition of the same phrases to describe Edward(which makes up 75% of the book)
Her simple diction, then the randomly thrown in words like 'scintillating'Www@QuestionHome@Com

Meyer's writing is juvenile at best!. She uses SO MUCH purple prose, almost all of which is about Edward's magnificent looks!. She overuses and misuses words frequently ("chagrin" springs to mind)!. Her grammar, particularly her sentence structure, is terrible!.

She is not talented enough to *show* her characters exhibiting the traits that she *says* they have!. Bella is meant to be compassionate and clever and miles more intuitive than other humans!. Instead she came across as whiny, boring, bitchy and stupid!. Edward is supposed to be a perfect, charming gentleman!. Instead he was arrogant, creepy and utterly lacking in personality!. This means that their whole "love story" doesn't ring true because they only pay any attention to each other because of the way he looks and the way she smells!. If you're going to give your book NO PLOT besides your main characters staring at each other and arguing about who loves who more, you need to have a truly incredible relationship to write about!. Edward and Bella didn't have that - in fact, Edward and Bella were entirely void of any chemistry whatsoever, and their relationship was completely superficial!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I think you need read a couple more books, before you decide that!.
Not to be rude!.
See, I've read extensively!. And when I read Twilight for the first time I thought it was a light, enjoyable read, but pretty unremarkable, as far as the reading goes!.
You talk about detail!? Detail in what, exactly, pray!? Edward's godlike Adonis figure!? Yes, he's hot, we get it !.!.!. move along now!. Ever read Austen!? We don't even know what color hair Elizabeth Bennett has, but she brings a wealth of description, detail, and intriguing, deep characters into her story!.
I'm not going to criticize you either!. I'm just presenting my opinion on it!.
Peace,
LuthienT

EDIT: stop!.justthink, that was a great explanation!. I agree with you 100%!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight wasn't exactly a masterpiece!. The book was WAY too long!. And the reason it was too long is that Meyer is not a good writer!. She had probably never read Strunk and White's The Elements of Style!. Instead of saying that Edward simply said something, she says that he "said calmly" "said longingly" or "said wistfully!." Too many adverbs!. And that's just the beginning!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I say it wasn't well-written because I have read better!. The dialoge always seemed kinda out of place, and random!. It didn't really flow!.

Don't get me wrong!. I love the books!. Stephenie Meyer has an extremely vivid imagination and I love the world she created in Twilight, but her writing just had a hint of amateur in it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For teenagers her writing might seem perfect because they are focusing on the romance of the story!. But for authors, aspiring writers and older people, the writing is just not that great!. I was into the first book at first, then i just go extremely bored at the end!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I mean the writing wasn't bad, it just wasn't very good!. The plot is alright in my opinion (but everybody loves it so apparently I just missed something!.!.)!. It's like JK Rowling's writing-not very good but very very successful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think that twilight was well written - i think its just different persons preferences and it doesn't nessisarily mean that it wasn't well written!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i liked the whole series, especially the first one
but the whole edward and jacob competition was kinda pointless by the time u got to the latest bookWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well, it seems kind of like SM had a bet going to see how many adjectives she could cram into the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Stop!.justthink pretty much totally summed it up!. Hit all the key points I was going for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you suck,

that's final!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight in my opinipn was very well written!. I loved how Stephenie Meyer developed the characters!. She really did an awesome job showing the difficulties Edward was having loving Bella and dealing with his thirst for her blood!.It is a very good story, it is my favorite book now!. I was never even interested in it in the first place because I wasnt into vampires and all that!.But I absolutely love it!!!!

P!.S!. maybe those critiques were for the movie because the movie was bad if you read the book!.

Team Edward all the way ;DWww@QuestionHome@Com
