Question: Are Jane Austen books appropriate for 13 year old!?
I'm 13 and I love reading classics!. I am a good reader so they are not too challenging for me to read so don't worry about that!. I want to read Jane Austen's books, but I heard some of them for example Mansfield Park are not appropriate for me!. I am going to read Pride & Prejudice because I know that one is fine but what other Jane Austen books are appropriate or not appropriate for me!? Thanks in advance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
They are completely appropriate!.

I took a graduate school class in which I had to read every Jane Austen book, and I cannot recall anything in any of them that I would not allow a 13 year old to read!. Mansfield Park has some challenging social themes that may be difficult, but nothing untoward!.

Starting with Pride & Prejudice and Emma is good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

None of her novels are inappropriate or shocking, but you may or may not understand most of the relationships and emotions being described!. I suspect you won't have any serious difficulty with any of them!. I read "Sense and Sensibility" at about your age and had no problem with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They are definitely appropriate for you!. Jane Austen is just amazing!. I can't think of any of her books that are "inappropriate"!.
