Twilight

curiosity got the best of me - I wanted to see what all the fuss was about!. Clearly, I'm not the target audience for it, but I found it mind-numbing!. It takes such an anti-feminist stance that it actually makes me ponder the thought-processes of today's teen and tween girls!.
You get this effeminate, non-imposing male figure!. He's not the big, burly man of typical romance novels, but he still swoops in, whisks the girl's problems away, takes care of her - like a father figure, like the misogynistic figures of the 50s!. She ends up being this weak figure that needs rescuing from what appears to be a pretty normal life!.!.!.!. she's portrayed as average in every way!. There's no inner turmoil, or outer tragedy that defines her - or anything that she really appears to need rescuing from!.!.!. just her average life!.!.!.!.!.
Why is the creepy 100 year old vampire hanging out in high school!? High school sucked!.!.!.!.why would someone want to stay there for some 85 years!.!.!.!.!?
Why is he hitting on girls less than a quarter of his age!?
none of this is ever explained!.
The details of vampire life are a complete travesty!.!.!.!. but that's pretty well-detailed elsewhere!.
It just bothers me deep down that the next generation of women have bought into this hook, line, and sinker!. Crying over the author and her book like she were a boyband!.!.!.!. It leaves me speechless!.

Edit:
lol yup I'm a guy!.!.!. but, in my opinion, gender shouldn't matter with good literature!.
I'm not ashamed to admit that I read Jane Austen!.!.!.
Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite novels!.

but yeah!.!.!.!. I'm definitely not the target audience!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the worst book i havce evr read , was, The Dust!.

The dust was a darey written by a girl durring the great deppression!.
the book wAS lacking Character!
it wasnt inscrptive, no imagery!
(and it wasnt a "real" diary, some wierd guy wrote it" )
pluss, she had no personality, it was very blunt, and then there would be parts, where she hadnt written in her diary for , years, and you would be totaly lost!

and i dont just put down the book when i decide that i dont like it, i just hate not knowing everything taht happens, and you never know, maybee the first few chapters were sucky, but the rest of the book might rock!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The worst book I've ever read was The Old Man and the Sea!. Sophomore year in high school!. Absolutely dreadful, torturously slow and lacking in plot, character development, and denoument!.!.!.

I also had to force myself to finish Twilight, I am one of those people who needs to see a book through, no matter how much I could care less if the characters lived or died!.!.!.I'm glad that young adults ARE reading, though, (no matter if I enjoyed the books or not) as so many have tossed books aside for video games!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most Overrated was Animal Farm!. Not that it was bad, just overrated!. It had been really talked up to me practically all of my life, and when I finally got the chance to read it, it was very mediocre!. Maybe it was revolutionary for the time it was written but I could have written it myself in the 9th grade!. Now don't get me wrong!. I'm a fan of Orwell!. 1984 is one of my all time favorites, but after reading that, Animal Farm was child's play!.

Most Borring was A Tale of Two Cities!. Though I love most of Dickens' stuff, that one just bored me TO DEATH!. I tried and tried to read it, but I just could not get into it!.

Most ridiculous was a book called "14 Things Witches Don't Want Parents to Know!." It was written by one of those crazy fundies who thinks The Little Mermaid is Satanic!. Okay, it was pretty great, for pure entertainment value!. I enjoy laughing at peoples' ignorance sometimes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Where The Wind Blows by John Saul was utterly horrible!. There were a few creepy moments, but his writing is horrendous, his dialogue is laughable, and the story is very cliched!.

I read Twilight, and although I don't get the obsession and wasn't very impressed, I didn't think it was THAT bad!. Sure, she's a pretty bad writer, but it was at least a quick, fun read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it sounds sad, but i read to kill a mocking bird, and i just couldn't get into it!. i don't think it lacked anything, it just didn't capture my attention, and i read nearly all of it, but i had to turn it in the week before school ended!. and i read the twilight books, which was a complete and utter waste of my time!. it was boring, uninteresting, poorly written, and it seems as if it was written for money, not for well um, the fun of writing it i guess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks!.

I bought by accident because I was abroad and I found a shelf of a bookshop, with simply written English language novels for teaching and this was the only book I hadn't read!.

Turns out it was a very popular American romance novel, I tried to be open about it, thinking I could enjoy it, no need to be a book snob, but it was too perfect!. Basically the plot ends up being: a middle class girl falls in love with a rugged, country boy and their love is so strong that it cures advanced Alzheimers when the girl grows old!. Apparently the films okay though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer!. It was very poorly written, the characters were all very out of character and lacked depth, the plot lacked depth and had plotholes, the writing skills are comparible to that of a middle schooler, and Meyer broke many of her own rules to give her characters a happy ending, which shouldn't have existed at all!.

Basically it lacked organization and good quality!.

And for the second part of the question, it depends on the book!. If I know it's popular or a classic, I'll wait it out more!. I'll give a book like that more of a chance than one I've never heard of, before!. I mean, if a book is popular, there has to be some reason for it!. I like to find it out!.

Edit: I agree, but BD was by far the worst of the series!. So I had to say it!.

Edit2: Don't worry about it!. In order to survive in the B&A section, you have to understand that saying anything that hints at your being in favor or against Twilight or Harry Potter will in most cases automatically get you a thumbs down!. Especially for a question like this, haha!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Breaking Dawn," but that book was so god-awful, I'm assuming a lot of people will mention it!.

The entire series is full of weak characters, lacking plot, and a number of other things I could mention!. I've made this rant so many times now, though, so I'm just going to let it slide this time!. ;)

I don't like romance books, usually (I do like -some-, like Austen's books)!. I've read a couple of Nicholas Sparks books!. Boring and melodramatic!.

I also thought "The Old Man and the Sea" was so very boring!. I couldn't finish it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Twilight!.

Actually, I never finished it!. I got through about half of it, and stopped!.

Why!? Besides the fact that I know what happens because I hear about it EVERY DAY, it's a pretty stupid plot!.

Vampire romance!? I mean!.!.!. And the whole vampire child that happens in one of the later books!?!
And the fact that the vampires GLITTER in the sun!. They SPARKLE like a million DIAMONDS in the sun!?!
C'mon!.!.!.

C'mon!.

And Bella!? Worst!. Character!. Ever!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A Bend In The Road by Nicholas Sparks!. How people get rich writing crap like this is beyond me!. The writing was trite and predictable!. You could see every plot development well before it happened and the ending was completely obvious!. It only took me about 4 hours to read, but that 4 hours could have been so much better spent!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Truth About Forever!. It wasn't even interesting to be teenage angst-y!. It was just the most platonic, predictable love story ever told!.

And to answer your other question!. When I was younger, I just threw the book to the side and forgot about it!. But now I finish it so I can justify my rants and back up my disdain with evidence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To be honest, yes, I didn't like Twilight very much!.
I was crazy about it in eighth grade, and when I look back at myself I half-laugh, half-cringe!.
Recently, the last book I read and didn't like was The Island of Dr!. Moreau!. It was lacking!.!.!. interesting-ness!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Breaking Dawn!. It was an ok series, but Breaking Dawn destroyed it with all those plot holes!. And there was no depth to the characters!

I usually read it, cause I always have some mild interests in the ending of every book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Tess of the d'Urbervilles", it was written very well!. I just hate how it turned out for the Tess, the plot was really messed up!.

I keep on reading, because it might get interesting as I keep going!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love John Grisham,great author!.
But I hated The Pelican Brief!.
It never captured me as much as The Client or The Firm did!.
I had to finish that book though, because I had to take a test on it in school!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You know I can't really think of one, and I know there has to be one!.
