Question: What do you think of Bella Swan of the Twilight series and why!?

I'm a little torn!.!.!.I don't think she stands up for herself enough with Edward, but she did punch Jacob when he kissed her against her will (though it didn't turn out so well)!. and there's a few other times that cause me to be torn, but i don't want too many spoilers in here!. i just can't decide if i think she's a strong character, or if she's whiny, selfish, and annoying!. Well!.!. On the one hand she is a strong, defiant, opinionated person!.

But at the same time her other traits cancel those out!. Bella is sort of too shy, self-concious, whiny and selfish!. But I think that maybe she portrays these characteristic to the reader because it is in her perspective!. But that doesn't necessarily mean that she comes across like this to the other characters!.

I think there are parts where she can be strong but others where she is the opposite!.

But I think this is how bella should be, I mean, that is how the majority of teenagers are, so it suits the profileWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well she may not be the most powerful female character but I like her!. I think that if you had an Edward you would react differently!. I mean hei isn't your typical teenaged boy!. He has less raging hormones but she difinetely wasn't the most persuasive person depicted in a story!. During most of the story she was not in a mentally sound place, I mean in the begining she moves to a completely different climate to live with someone whom is essentially a stranger, and then she is blown away by a boy who turns out to be a vampire! In new moon, when everything finally starts to get better her whole life leaves her back at stage 1, a relationship between her and another possible love interest forms and all of a sudden he's gone too, re-shattering her!. Then in Eclipse she takes partial dominance in the relationship between Edward and herself!. She talks Jacob of the ledge of suicide and regains her spiritual strength!. In BD she decides that she will keep the baby and in the end protects her family from a possible massacre!. At first I thought that how Stephenie portrayed her was!.!.!.well misyoginistic, but then if you step back and examine her life struggles, the poor girl has been through a lot!

Ok so another thing that I thought of was how she is a teenaged girl as am I and if I got thrown into Bella's position I think that I would have the same response!. After my mom died I got a lot of extra chores and I cook dinner a lot and do dishes and laundry a lot and stuff and I mean at least I had a chance to step back and process the changes that I was going through, Bella doesn't, if you were merely a teenaged girl and were put in her place would you - honestly - react much differently!? I know that as a teenager with emotions already running wild to be dealt this hand would cause anyone to be extremely emotional!.
P!.S!. She's never been able to rely on anyone and so when an epic catasrophe comes crashing down on the poor littke outcast human, it's nice for her to be able to run screaming, "Edward fix it!!" and she goes to the studio in phoenix to save her mom, a pretty noble deed in my book!Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you havent read the fourth book yet, bella is not very selfish here!. she is ready to give up something very valuable to her in order for someone or something to be able to thrive!. she also uses what she receives to help other people!. and in the third book, she goes and gets him even though he said he didnt want her!. she still didnt want him to die, so she went and saved him!. and then she went to go to the ballet studio in phoenix because she thinks her mother is there and will be hurt if she doesnt go!. so no!. i dont think shes whiny or selfish considering that the love of her life, her one and only, left her and told her that he didnt love her anymore!. but keep reading!!!! the series is great!!! youll love it!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't understand why people think she is so whiny!. They say she complains about her looks, college, Jacob, etc!.
People say shes always whining about how she isn't good enough for Edward!. Would you rather she beself-obsessed!? She isnt good enough for Edward!. I would hate it if she was overly confident!.

From her perspective she is selfish, and weak!. She thinks she asks for too much and does not reciprocate with anything in return!. But if you look at it from edward's point of view, or any other persons for that matter, you would see that she is selfless, giving up her life, normal friends, and even family to be with him!. It may be selfish and selfless at the same time!. She really doesn't want to hurt anyone, because she doesn't feel the need to make anyone else give anything up for her sake!. I don't think shes a strong character, i also saw her as a little bit whiny or selfish but i only think we see her as that because we know her every thought if you looked at it from the outside she never really puts all her thoughts out there she just keeps it all to her self!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was only able to make it through the first 2 books!. She annoyed the crap out of me!. Especially in the second book!. She is not strong!. She is weak!. I was sick to death of the Romeo and Juliet scenarios!. ECK!Www@QuestionHome@Com
