Question: Which is your favourite adaptation of Jane Eyre!? !?
And why!?
I like the 1983 version best, Zelah Clarke fits Jane's description almost exactly and both her and Dalton do a great job :D
Plus it follows the story almost word by word!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have never seen a film version of Jane Eyre as I am always disapointed in films 'based on the book' as they never are! I will check it out though as its one of my favourite books and I know the story backwards and upside down!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I haven't found a perfect adaptation yet!. I liked very much Ruth Wilson as Jane in BBC 2006 and also music and photography but I didn't like the script and that steamy separation scene which totally undermined the moral dilemma and Jane's strong personality and Rochester's most powerful honest moment in the novel!. I haven't found my Rochester yet!. I liked Welshe's abrupt manners at the beginning (1944), Jayston's irony (1973), Stephen's playfulness and tenderness (2006), but Dalton was the one closer to my image (1893) - the dialogues though were very slow for me although I adore the book!. I didn't like much Fontaine as Jane (too timid and wearing her heart at her sleeve), Cusack was sometimes too abrupt and ironic (1973) and Clarke for me was not expressive enough leaving Dalton acting alone at times (1983)!. The worst adaptations were 1996 (Rochester there clinically depressed, Jane too colorless, although Anna Paquin was the best Jane Eyre kid ever) and 1997 where Rochester is yelling all the time and Jane is such a prude in some scenes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
