I can suggest several reasons:

1) The English use different spelling!. Colour not color, etc!. Tyre not tire!. Textbooks can't have "bad" spelling!.

2) Non-US textbooks might use different currency units!. They might have Euros instead of dollars and meters instead of feet!. My kids use US textbooks in an international school and some of the other parents wonder why their kids have to learn what a dime is or how many feet in a yard -- these are things that have no importance in their lives!.

3) US textbooks may have more place and historical references than international texts!. A US textbook might assume the student knows that the Statue of Liberty is in New York, Thanksgiving is in November or that the Civil War was between the North and the South!. In England, the Civil War was between Cromwell and King Charles the second!.

4) The publishers may price their books differently!. They have to make a cover their costs (both printing and research and writing) on the US market!. They may not be able to sell their books for the same price internationally and may chose to sell at a price that covers printing cost, but not the research and writing costs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably means they they aren't Pro USA!.!.!. and have less ambiguity than US texts do!. Remember History is written by the victors!. So US texts are Pro-US!.!.!.

I would love to see the text you mention because I love reading history and have been trying to get my hands on some actual British or English ones!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
