"It was different from considering murder in the abstract, reading those names!."

The first one means that she thinks she can't get in dartmouth without an enormous bribe because she thinks she's not smart enough!. So she presumes that the Cullen's would donate a new wing to the library to bribe her in!.
The second is that it was thought as murder but not really in the same way from her perspective!. Normal people thought it was murder by another person but the real fact was it was by vampire!. So the names of people murdered had a different meaning for her!.

Bella thinks that the only way she'd be able to get into Dartmouth is if the Cullens donated millions of dollars there!. That they would have to donate enough to make a new library!.
And she's saying that because she knows that the murder was done by vampires it makes them seem so much real than if they were just murders in the newspaper!. The first question is her just jabbing him verbaly saying that they were going to have to bribe dartmouth with a new wing to the school to even except her cause she never thinks she is good enough for anything or anybody!.
So she is just trying to make reason kind of jokingly why she would even get in!.
