Question: Why don't you like Twilight!?

I personally like the books, they're a good read, but I'm not one of those obsessive-OMEEEEEE-Mrs!. Cullen-Edward-please-bite-me girls!.

I just want to know what is it about the *book* that you don't like!. Be nice please and don't just say "because it sucks"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like Twilight!. It's one of my guilty pleasures!. It's an entertaining read!.

But there's a 'but'!.

It's so completely cliche!. Everyone likes it and won't stop talking about it!. Everyone posts about it on here!. Everyone - EVEN THE HATERS - won't stop talking about how much they like/hate it!.

It's annoying!.

also, as an English major, I have a bit of beef with the book!. The major characters (Edward and Bella, for the most part) are completely one-dimensional!. You can anticipate anything and everything that they are going to do or say!. They are unoriginal!. They are sappy!.

But!.!.!.

I like it!.

I just wish everyone would stop blowing it out of proportion!. The world acts like it is the best thing since sliced bread, and girls who have probably never read another book in their life carry it around like a mantra!.

I saw someone post about how they were going to convince their parents to buy lifesize cardboard cutouts of the characters!. This, to me, is just ridiculous!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My problem with the series is the flaw named Bella Swan!. The only characteristic of her personality that is believable are that she is afraid of needles!. She is far too clumsy to be realistic- it's a setup so she can be rescued by Edward!. She is very shallow- although she claims she loves Edward's "soul" more than his "glorious face and incomparable body" there's not a word of support for that in the entire series!. 3/4 of the entire first book is only going on and on about how beautiful Edward is!. She is also way too dependent on Edward- Jacob gets one thing right when he says Edward's like a drug to her!. She's whiny when Edward's not there, clingy when he is there, and when he leaves her, she transforms into something resembling an overdramatic slug!. She has no life outside Edward, and she fails to notice that he is abusive and a stalker!. She allows him to manipulate her and walk all over her, even when he physically prevents her from going to her friend's house!. She should have ended it right then and there!. also, there is no logical reason why her mind is blocked to Edward's; it's only because it would be more inconvenient if he could read Bella's lustful, shallow thoughts!. In New Moon, she is cruel to Jacob, disregarding everything Jacob has done for her in a heartbeat and chasing after Edward again!. In Eclipse she's unbelievably cowardly; she can't stand to be alone for a few hours and compromises everyone's safety so she can be with Edward, even as all the vamps and werewolves in Forks fight to keep her safe!. Once she and Edward get married, she literally begs him to have sex with her!. It's pathetic and degrading!. And, finally, she saddles her poor daughter with the name Renesmee!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I personally haven't even read them because i don't like romance/fantasy novels!. I just like watching the arguments!.

Anyway, because the are the 'obsessed girls' out there they think its absolutely impossible to hate there favourite books!. But it is and the sh it thats been caused over it is seriously getting annoying!. It started with just people not liking them and the 'girls' complaining!. THEN Twilight became a big thing!. For example 'Twilight girl' You have a simple question and we are answering our opinion but the 'obsessed girls' go overboard and then goes the 'Twilight haters' !.You hardly saw that before Twilight was 'the thing!.'

I'm fine with the ones that just say yeah i've read them, they're okay, get over it!. But the ones that impersonate and ask endless questions and are like 'Yay Team Edward ' or whatever are just making things worse!. People who have read them and say they didn't like them then get worse now saying they are not worth reading at all and blah blah blah!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am a fan of Twilight and I've always liked Edward Cullen from the start, but some people go over and beyond what "normal" fans would do!. When Breaking Dawn was released, my friend was asked if someone could smell her new copy!.

I think some people make it worse than it is!. They are over obessive and think that Edward Cullen will magically appear at their bedside just waiting for them!. It's those kinds of people who ruin Twilight for the really good book that is actually is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My 14 yr old daughter read the series and loved it and then she saw the movie and didn't like it at all!. Since then, she has started to read Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire and she says there is no comparison!.!.!. She likes the Anne Rice books better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The plot, mostly, was my main problem with Twilight!. It was non-existent!. I'm talking about the real plot when I say "plot", of course!. The one with James!?
Right, anyway, it wasn't until like 400 pages in that we got to meet the antagonist!. Edward's and Bella's dating wasn't enough to keep me interested in the space between

The characters are another problem!. Bella is a Mary Su!. She gets what she wants without ever working for it!.
She never experiences real, lasting hurt either!. George R!. R!. Martin, for example, cripples characters, kills them off, and routinely just pushes them around for the fun of it!. The worst that Bella suffers in Twilight is a broken leg!. Boo hoo!. Unlike cripplitis and deadness, her leg will get better!. No damage done!.
It's boring to read a book where you know the characters won't suffer any harm!.

On top of that, Bella is a rag-doll!. She is the most boring, most passive person I've ever read about!. She does nothing but cook and get herself into situations for Edward to save her from!.

It is cliche!.
An attempted rape scene where the female lead is saved at the last second by the male lead!? Even Spiderman did that one! Everyone has done that one!.
The whole girl meets vampire thing is also beaten to death!.

I don't like their "love" for each other!.
Edward would be considered a major creepy old man pedo if he showed his age (but he looks young; I guess it's okay!) and he only likes this teenager because of her smell!. I would never date a 17 year-old, no matter how delicious they smelled and I'm nowhere near Edward's age!.
The same goes for Bella!. She is attracted to Edward only because he is smoking hawt!.

And bad story logic!. When Edward said that Bella attracted bad luck, I thought it was a joke!. It turns out that that is the actual deus ex machina reason Stephenie Meyer expects us to believe why Bella gets into so much trouble!. It's ridiculous!.

And the whole "I turn into a disco ball in sunlight" thing!.

And Zara is absolutely right about the anti-feminist thing!. There is not a single instance when Bella makes the first move for anything!. It's always Edward Edward Edward!. Edward saves the day, Edward asks to go out, Edward is the one who makes the first move in the meadow!. Forget making the first move, Edward is the only one who moves!.

You could replace Bella with a broom and it wouldn't affect the plot!.

It wasn't like I had a problem with the series - in fact, I was one of those, what did you call them!? Ah, yes, an "obsessive-OMEEEEEE-Mrs!. Cullen-Edward-please-bite-me girl"!. But then I read the last book (Breaking Dawn)!.

I don't want to spoil too much in case you haven't read it!. But what I will say is that the science was wrong, the characters changed, and the "epic battle" wasn't all that epic!. In fact, it was probably one of the most boring epic battles in the history of literature! :P When confronted with the question, "What do you think about the science being wrong!?" the author laughed it off and said, "I'm an English major, not a science one!." That question rubbed me the wrong way!. To top it off, she later responded to further Breaking Dawn questions by saying, "It will all be explained in the official guide" like I'm supposed to go buy it!. Those words got me ticked, but I probably would've stuck with her if she had responded differently!.

Then I started realizing things about the book!. Like the grammar mistakes!. The dead-end plot!. The way the main character isn't realistic!. And I realized that the main character isn't a good role model!. I mean, (Breaking Dawn spoilers) she gives up her life straight out of high school to get pregnant and get married and skip college in order to turn into a mythical creature!. Let's say she did go to college - what would she study!? *Cricket, cricket* Er, she has no hobbies!. Then she turned into a Marry Sue beautiful vampire with a Marry Sue beautiful demon vampire child and, to top it off, a recently-turned Gary Lou beautiful vampire husband! Ta da! Perfect life!.

So I don't have a problem with Twilight, just Breaking Dawn!. I suggest an avid reader to read the first three, but unless they are an "obsessive-OMEEEEEE-Mrs!. Cullen-Edward-please-bite-me girl or boy" times 3000 I wouldn't recommend the last one!. Nonetheless I have respect for Twi-hards as long as they don't take it too far!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
