Question: Twilight question!.!.!.reality check!?
Okay, I have to admit, I have answered many of the twilight questions, but I do this mostly because it is rare to find a book that so many people have read that I can actually talk about in the first place!. Most of the books I read, if I were to ask a question about them, I would be lucky to get a single response, so it is nice for once to find a book that is so open to debate!.

What I can't understand is the hate surrounding it!. I have read many books, I am proud book-worm, due to the fact that my parents were anti-tech and I never had cable, so when all my friends were obsessing over 90210 (the original) I was at home nerdily enjoying a good novel!. I feel this makes me a pretty good judge of fiction!. I will also read anything that catches my interest, from classic lit to biographies, to fantasy (my favourite genre by far), or even the occasional romance novel (twilight fans should defiantly read Marjorie M!. Lui, for a slightly more mature version of twilight-esque novels)!. I will also read young adult books on occasion, such as twilight!.

I read the entire series in three days and found them to be entertaining!. I am a sucker for a good love story and I rather enjoyed them!. I understand the obsessiveness, it is the same type of unrequited lust that teenage girls get over any hot superstar/character, just another, if unusual, celebrity obsession!. But the hating!? It's so weird, like who really cares, I think the only reason people care is because it is so popular, like if it was just another novel that no one but the readers cared about the haters wouldn’t care either!. And the fact is, it isn't that bad, I mean for what it is -- a fictional young adult novel with a twist of fantasy -- it's actually a good novel!. You have to keep it in mind that she was writing for the teen crowd in the first place so people expecting great literature are going to be sadly mistaken, though interestingly enough the ability to affect the popular consciousness in the way Stephanie Meyer's books have speaks of a certain level of creative talent, regardless of how much the haters hate it!.

Basically I understand the obsession, but the hate and the dissing of the writing itself!? I'm not a lit snob, and I read for entertainment, if a book doesn’t catch me in under 5 pages I put it down, and if I end up staying up to 4 in the morning because a book is that interesting I consider it a good book!. And a book can be interesting without being perfect!. In fact sometimes books that are too perfect are boring, like there is no life in them because life is messy and when you take out the mess you're just left with something perfectly boring!.

So I guess one question I have is why the hate or the obsession (or the obsessive hate)!? Keeping things in perspective, it is a fictional teen novel and the characters are just that, fictional!. And if you don't like the plot or the characters, well who cares!? She didn't write the novel for you, she wrote it for herself!. It's her creation, her world!. Take it or leave it!.

Another question is how do YOU feel about the weird obsessiveness surrounding this novel (negative or positive) and why do you feel that way, or why do you feel so strongly about what is really just a piece of popular fiction aimed at the average teenage girl!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Alright I'll try to explain this one!. :) I actually have a very nice view of both parties!. Let me start off by making it clear that I don't hate Twilight!. I enjoyed the first three novels in the series!. However at times I find myself strongly disliking the overly obsessed cullen fan girls!. Some people take it way too far!.
I'm currently very active in several writer's forums, such as Booksie!.com, YWS, fanfic!.com!.!.!.Etc!. What I find disturbing is that some girls take the novel far too seriously!. It literally becomes their lives!.
It's impossible to speak to them without the mention of vampires, Edward Cullen!.!.!.
I'm just worried for their heath!. The worst site of the listed above would be Booksie!.
Girls who want to be taken seriously as writers take their writing and twist it to almost an exact copy of Twilight given the change of names and settings!.
Not only is that bad for their chances at making it as more than online novelist, it ruins the playing field for writers in favor of more classic writing that has vampires in it!. People like myself you prefer Anne Rice's writing to SM's!.
It's not just the writers who dwell in this genre either!. It's the girls who choose not to write 'zombie' copies that get shrugged off as well!. :(
On a completely other note Twilight has opened a door to allow more original vampire novels to be considered by publishers, yet at the same time be put down for fear that they'll be Twilight copies!.
I'm sorry I know there's a lot of mention of writers, but I can't help it!. This is the area that I see myself discourage the most!.
Alright now I have to cmment on the fact that you point out that Twilight's liteature quailty shouldn't matter when deciding whether or not to read it!.
To an extent I agree, but again the majority of the haters are writers!. I think the main issue with this is that 'we' (Being the writers) tend to get jealous that something not necessarily poorly written but in need of editing was published nearly on it's appeal!. While many are denied simply because their writing has the same liteature state as SM's!.
I do agree that if something is overly edited, perfected!.!.!.It's not a very good piece to read!. I think it's because the writer becomes obessed with the grammar and lacks in the plot!.
I'm not sure though, but I do agree on that note!.
Really I do think these problems are!.!.!.stupid!. I don't hate Twilight, I'm not obessed with it!.!.!.
I don't live, breathe, eat Twilight!. I've read the series, I've enjoyed it!.!.!.Now i'm moving on!. There are so many other books out there!. Why waste time nick picking over one when we can be just as passionate about several million others!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

im only answering yur second !?

so yes i do feel weird about the novels popularity and how many people their are reading it !.It's funny though everyone thinks their so new even thogh they came out during the past 3 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like Lyra's answer!.

I think the reason people hate the book is because of the obsessing!. Haha :D Well it's just that, no offense, it gets annoying!. I know people love to talk about it, I do too!. I like the book, just don't love it!. Although I used to!. So don't take anything offensive in my answer!. The books are great, but its like the only reason people like it is because of Edward Cullen!. Don't you think!? Don't you notice in most of the Twilight Quesitons it's DONT U LOVEE EDWARD!?!? I love him too, I really do!. But I just don't think it's the best book in the world!. To be honest, I used to [retend I hated the book because I didn't want people to think of me as a huge Twilight Twinkie!. When really I just like the book!.
Im getting off subject!.
But I tihnk most of the reason why people hate the book is because of the fact that all of the Twilight Twinkies are saying its the best book in the world!. When in fact, there are such greater book sin teh wrold, that dont get recognized!. And that how Harry Potter is being compared to it, when they are so different from each other!.
The reason people obsess over it is, like I asid Edward!. In my eyes that is!. The book is just everyone wanting to be Bella!. Theres really no plot in the book at all, no story, just them being in love, her wanting to be a vampire!. And vampires chasing each other!. Maybe if they had on theme, one really great theme, maybe even a task, it could pass to be great book!.

I think the weird obsessiveness is a little annoying!. Liek i said dont get me wrong, the book is great, I really like it!. I like reading it, I liked watching it!. Except I also don't like it because SM isn't a very good writer, and the last book was disappointing :P I think its annoying because well the only things i find are annoying are
OMGG EDWARD IS SOO HOT !. OM HE IS THE NUMNER ONE!. NO ONE CAN BEAT HIMM> I'm not saying u cant obsess over him!.I'm just saying's it is kinda annying how Y!A! is getting filled with questions like that!. It's a Q and A!. No a Edward Discussion Board!.
I'm also finding it annoying that the obsessiveness is used to hate on books like Harry Potter!. I bet you HALF the Harry Potter haters are Twilight TWinkies!. And ALL of the haters, and people who say it boring are people who have only read thef irst book!.Believe me I thought the first book was boring too, it took me anout 2 years to start the secon book!. I didnt start reading it until I watched all the movies that were otu!. ANyway
im so fof subject :D
hope that helped!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you don't like the plot or the characters, well who cares!? Well, the readers do!. You're not making sense!. I don't like the taste of caramel, so I don't like it!. And I care that I don't like it!. And I'm sure that other caramel-haters would care that I don't like it!.

That might be a bad comparison, but you get my point, right!? Everyone has opinions!. Mine happens to be that Twilight is a bad book!. And it's not a big deal; it's like how I feel about caramel!. That's not a big deal, either!. But when Twilight, a poorly written book with very noticeable and major plot holes and characters that are flatter than paper, gets so much positive attention, it's really annoying!. Twilight doesn't deserve this much attention!. And THAT isn't too much of a big deal, either!. The real reason why it's getting so much negative attention here is because of the fans!. They ask repetitive and obnoxious questions about the characters ("OMG EDWARD IS SO HOT WHO ELSE LOVES HIM!?") and have disrupted the normalcy of Y!A!. In short, they're annoying!. And people care about that!. That's a big deal!. So people try and annoy them back, either by insult or bashing their favorite books, and the Twilighters fight back, and then you have a lot of hating towards both sides!.

I'm tired of the obsessiveness, both positive and negative!. I think, now, that it IS just a book, and I'd really like to move on with my life, now, and I wish other people would do the same!. I feel this way because I'm just plain tired of it all!. This whole mess has shown how immature and petty people can be about stupid things!. The other day, one of my contacts asked a question, saying that Twi-Haters would get a kick out of it!. It was a game, and you had to pick the "most appropriate" songs for each book in the series!. By "most appropriate," he meant whatever song best personified the worst aspects of the book!. I answered saying that he's just adding fuel to the fire, and he said he didn't care!. I took him off my contacts list!. I don't have patience or respect for people like that!.

I do feel strongly about Twilight!. I really hate it!. But I'm not willing to put this much effort into hating something!. At least, not anymore!.

But yeah!. I hope you understand the hate better!. There is a good reason for it!. It's just that it's turned into something ugly that doesn't really deserve to be around anymore!. People can whatever opinion they want to have for a book, but I wish they'd keep a book and its fans separate!. You know!?

Edit: Well, thankyou JDoan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i am just going to answer the 2nd !?

to tell the truth i kinda like how obsessed i am with the novel it makes me feel like i can escape to the fantasy world whenever i open one of the books!. I think i feel so strongly about it because at the very beginning it is just a normal teenage girl moving and then BAM! somehow she gets caught up in vampires and werewolvesWww@QuestionHome@Com

im a complete twilight freak!. ok so y!?!? not really sure i think its because every girl wants someone as perfect as edward!. if u ask the basic teen girl to explain the perfect guy it would probably be edward!. and i think the fact that this book appeals to everyone is another big factor its not a very dark novel or about some preppy girl!. it kinda fits every where!.

the reason for the hate is lame i think its because its so popular!. some people dont want to get in with trends so they feel the need to think twilight is stupid!. i have honest guy friends who i have gotten to read it and they have truthfully told me they loved it!. so i think its just about being somewhat rebellious to go against what everybody thinks!.

i would like to hear your opinions on this!. or somebody who is not a twilight fanWww@QuestionHome@Com

Ok, so I know a lot of people are obsessing about Twilight, I was too, but know I kind of know why I was!. It wasn't the book I was obsessing over, but it was that a wanted someone like Edward to love me!. I didn't want Edward, I just wanted someone like him!. I think that is why a lot of people like Twilight, not just because it's a good book, but because they want that to happen to them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
