Okay for you Twilight haters or Harry Potter haters don't bother wasting my time!. In my opinion Harry Potter surpasses Twilight but I love reading the Twilight series very much!. So don't go bashing them!. Whoever does or is thinking about it!.!.!. grow up!.
Anyway this is an essay I wrote on Harry Potter that I'd like you to read!. It is a VERY rough copy and also pretty long!. So you don't have to read it!. Let me remind you I'm only in 8th grade!. I had to write it on my favorite series to try and convince some students to read it!. (Basically haters!.) Thanks!.
--------------------------------------!.!.!.
If I had the time, I could think of hundreds of different reasons why you should love Harry Potter; maybe even thousands! Many people claim that they don’t like the Harry Potter books!. But that’s only because they’ve never read them… These top ten reasons are the first that came to mind, but they only skim the surface!.
10) Genre- The Harry Potter books are fantasy!. However, when you read them, it doesn’t seem like fantasy!. The books are believable!. What I mean is that even though there are magic and mythical creatures, it seems real!. The way the books are written makes it seem like having magic is a regular part of everyday life; sort of like there’s magic in our world too!. Since the books are about the people, not the magic, they hook the reader!. So, even people who hate fantasy can enjoy Harry Potter!.
9) Humor- A lot of the time the stories are grim and dark!. But the author never hesitates to put a little humor in!. Whether it’s a stink bomb in the Great Hall or a boy’s embarrassing dress robes with lace; J!.K!. puts it in!. It lightens up the story even if only for a few moments!.
8) Magic- In the books the magic is AMAZING! There are fantastic spells, potions, enchantments, hexes, and jinxes!. One of my favorite hexes is called ‘petrificus totalus’!. When cast, it locks your opponent’s skeleton together!. They fall to the floor; unable to move or speak!. There are dark spells too, of murder and torture!. As the books go on, Harry learns more and more about dark magic!. There are three Unforgivable Curses: The Cruciatus; curse of torture, The Imperius; curse of control, and the finally the death curse; Avada Kadavra!. He survives all three!.
7) Separate Books- Each book in the Harry Potter Series has its own separate adventure!. Every one of them has a different story line!. They follow Harry as he learns and grows!. Each year at school is a different book!. Even though it’s a series, the author doesn’t keep you waiting at the end of the book!. Something major has been accomplished by Harry and he goes off for another summer at the Dursleys (his evil aunt and uncle)!.There is a sense of closure to each piece!.
6) Team- Harry’s ‘team’ is always with him!. Together Harry, Hermione, and Ron, conquer what they couldn’t alone!. His friends never falter to appear at his side, even when he doesn’t need them!. It’s nice to see the main character rely on them instead of having to do everything himself!. The strength of his friendship with them helps him accomplish a lot more!.
5) Thinking Ahead- I love how J!.K!. Rowling makes little things in earlier books become extremely important in later books!. Many things that are casually mentioned and are barely noticeable turn out to be of great significance in the books to come!. For example; one day Harry, Hermione, and Ron walked into a pub called the Hog’s Head!. The pub owner was there minding his own business, wiping glasses!. The three children barely took notice of him, except when they ordered their drinks!. Then, in the last book, the owner turned out to be very important!. He was the brother of Albus Dumbledore, a beloved lost friend!. He helped them uncover mysteries about Dumbledore and even saved their lives!
4) Conflicts- Every kind of conflict in literature, is presented in these books!. First of all, you can see evidence of Man to Man conflicts!. There are tons of battles, and wars, and fights, and duels!. Secondly, Man against Society comes into play!. The government, or as the magical world calls it, the Ministry of Magic, always interferes with Harry’s plans!. Sometimes the government hates him, and sometimes they try to use him as an icon! Next, there’s Man against Self!. Harry can never figure out what to do next!. Nothing is easy to decide on!. Almost every choice he can make leads him into trouble!. J!.K!. Rowling is constantly showing Harry as indecisive!. This illustrates him growing up!. The fourth conflict is Man against Nature!. There isn’t much of this type of conflict, but at certain times Harry finds himself running from famished giant spiders, or being taken down by a ruthless, angry willow tree!. Last, but definitely not least, is (drum roll please…) Man against Fate!. Throughout the whole series (even though Harry doesn’t know for quite some time), he has to dodge the fact that it is his destiny, or fate, to kill soWww@QuestionHome@Com
