Question: Is lord of the rings based on a true story!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
yes!.!.!.!.!.i can trace my lineage to gandalf!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not as such, there were a number of true to life themes that the story promotes though!. also worth noting is that many of the settings in middle earth are based on real places!.
Firstly, there is the basic motif of good vs evil
Second, there is the subtlety of that which is wrong - the ring is inviting and the power to become invisible a useful trait!. Further, the user becomes enslaved slowly and cannot the danger!.
- This may be reflective of a christian aspect of sin and wrong-doing reflecting the influence of CS Lewis and other of Tolkien Oxford fantasy club friends!.
Thirdly there is the idea of the prevalence of evils triumph only requiring the inaction of good men - Iseuldeur's refusal to destroy the ring first time round, the decadence of men, the lack of watchfulness over Mordor!.
Fourthly there is the anti industrial themes - depicted well in the film with 'the fires of Isenguard, ''fires of industry", also all the desired places are rural settings, the Shire and Lothlorien for example!. This was I think in part reflective of the horrors of WWII that Tolkien felt was the horror of industrial warfare!.
also there is the idea of sacrifice and struggle necessary for the conquest over evil!.
Thats all I can think of at the moment, forgive any misspellingsWww@QuestionHome@Com

its not based on a true story but it is kinda of sort of based off of the world wars!.
jrr tolkien was in one of the world wars

for example Treebeard and the rest of the Ents are representing the countries that were late to go into the war but the war got so bad they had to join anyway because it would effect them no matter what!.

But there is none such thing as a magical ring, or hobbits, or ents, or wizards, or middle earth for that matter so it cant be based of a true story!. i love the books and the movies! it is such a wonderful story! if you havent read them i suggest you do!

Are orcs real!? Are hobbits real!? I know wizards are real, but what about the talking walking trees!?
There is social commentary in it though!. There is no religion in the book, showing that an entire world can exist without religion!. Sauron is arguably Hitler (it was written during WWII) and Wormword could very well represent Goebbels, propaganda minister for Hitler and the Nazi Party!.
The book draws on ancient themes - the return of the heroic King is very much like King Arthur, Merlin is like Gandalf, and so on!.
One of the best novels ever written!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some events were based on Tolkiens's real life experiences!. Go on Wikipedia's article on JRR Tolkien!.

TOLKIEN DID NOT BASE IT ON WORLD WAR 2!. HE SIAD IT OVER AND OVER!. LORD OF THE RINGS FANS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED!.

Really, I don't see small people playing in holes, or Orcs marching past my door, or a red eye in my window!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

oh yes of course!. hobbits really live in little hills and men ride around on huge horses with swords and ghosts live in mountains that want to kill you and a little hairless dude named smeagol wnats a ring called his precious and hes prepared to kill the hobbits that live in golf courses for the ring that in connected to a huge eye on a mountain and will kill anyone who wears it or give them extreme power!. now if you'll excuse me, i have to go find the one ring and kill some orks with my sword that glows blue!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Tolkein was a linguistics professor who loved inventing languages!. So he made up a bunch of languages and then made up a world to go with them!. And then made up the history of the world and turned it into a fantasy classic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First,guys,stop being so mean!.!.!.!.!.

No,it isn't!. Though J!.R!.R!. Tolkein might have been influenced by the World War's,it is not "based" on a true story!.
