Question: J!.K Rawlings stated Dumbledore is gay!?
She stated after the series was over that Dumbledore was gay I have no problem with homosexuals but it bothers me nonetheless!. I think it's because it was never stated or even hinted throughout the series I mean can a character keep going even after the book is over!.

P!.S she also said she may do another book down the road but would not use Harry as a main characterWww@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with you!. I don't mind people's sexual preferences but it was unneccesary to state that!.
Firstly, it was a kind of hasty desicion-answer of her's and totally unconvincing and without elaborating as to why she created him that way (if she ever did and wasn't just an inspiration of the moment)!. I believe you can be attracted in someway to another person of the same sex in a spiritual-admiration level without wanting to have intimate relationships (something I think about Dumbledoor's relationship with his friend)!.
Secondly, it was provoking to say something like this as Dumbledoor was a professor with a close relationship to Harry Potter too!.
And thirdly, it is so wild irrelevant with the story!. Why on earth should we know if a character in a children's book has different preferences than the average person!? Why comment at all his sexual life!? It was like trying to make readers accept the difference with embodying it in a sympathetic character!? Well if that was the concept it was badly done and didn't made me think any better on the subject (with which I don't have any problem anyway)!. It seemed more as an attention call too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, she did!. It was probably to get yet more audience and exposure (although I can't figure out why!)

It may have been to take swipe at some of the more extreme religious fanatics out there that said that she was teaching "witchcraft"!. Dumbledore being homosexual WOULD have been a nice "exit jab" at them!. It may have also been a lead-in for future books where she actually has homosexuals as characters!. I don't for a moment believe that she ever thought of any of her Harry Potter characters as homosexuals or she would have brought it out before she did!. She may have also just wanted "another headline" (which again would be totally unnecessary!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, first of all, yes!.!.!. a character can "keep going" after the book is over!. Or at least, you can keep learning more about them!. The characters in Harry Potter are a lot deeper than what's shown in the book!. She has written complete life stories - even family histories - for most of the characters!. Tons of information that was simply impossible to include in the book!. Why would she do that!? Well, as an author, it helps to really "know" your characters and their histories - the things that shaped their personalities - as intimately as possible, so you can convincingly portray how they would behave in the various situations in the book!.

As for Dumbledore being gay - when I first heard about that, my immediate reaction was, "Why'd she have to announce that!?!!?" The books have gotten enough flack as it is from certain groups - why give them any more ammunition!? And was it really necessary to make him gay!?

But then I thought more about it!. J K Rowling didn't "make" Dumbledore gay - that's just the way he was "born" in her mind!. The story and characters just came to her, and she simply wrote it all down!. At least she didn't come out and say "Dumbledore's gay" in the books, which I think is good!. A character's sexual preference isn't something that needs to be mentioned in a children's book!. (Some might disagree, but that's my opinion)!. Did she need to publicly announce it!? I don't know!.!.!. I'm still not sure how I feel about that!.

But I don't have any problem with Dumbledore being gay!. I love Dumbledore and the whole series and think J K Rowling is completely brilliant!! And I really hope she writes some more!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually !.!.!. there are a few hints in the final book that Dumbledore may have been in a homosexual relationship with another wizard - however the hints are so subtle that only mature readers who read through the book very carefully would be likely to pick them up!.

I think the characters have been a part of JK Rowling's life for so long that she probably has their histories and their futures pretty well worked out!. Many writers keep journals on their characters with notes detailing their past and futures!. This helps keep the story believable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

LMAO!!! THAT WAS SO POINTLESSS!!! UUUGGGH!!! I was so mad at her! Y did she do that!?! It had nothing to do with this incredible series, and it made her look like she's just reaching out for more attention after her book has been finished!.!.!.!.!.uh!.!.!.!.w/eWww@QuestionHome@Com

I read something about that, it sounds like she was making a joke :P

That's really funny, because nobody would think of dumbledore like that xDWww@QuestionHome@Com
