This is going to be a matter of opinion-there is no right or wrong answer!. Abigail Williams did start all the witch-name-calling, so she is directly to blame for the events that go on in Salem!. However, John Proctor could have put a stop to it by confessing about their relationship and letting people know why Abigail was acting in this manner!.

My guess is your teacher just wants you to chose a side, and include a few points towards your reasoning for picking the side backed up by some quotes in the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
