I think Twilight is religiously biased!.!.!.with Mormonism!. What do you think!? I didn't like that very much!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

History majors should not be allowed to read vampire novels!.
There is mention at one point in the novel where Carlie is mentioned being either Anglican or Church of England!. Call it like it is he's a Puritan!. When I read the character names I assumed they would be Catholic because Cullin is about as Irish as you get!.

I didn't know blending names was big in Mormonism, that's kinda cool

I didn't understand Edwards reasoning behind not having sex before marriage!. He makes some comment or other about people in his day just not doing it!. I don't know what rock he's living under but there has never been a time in history where boys in particular waited for marriage for sex!. There have been many periods where girls are expected to wait, but you don't usually get a chance because as soon as puberty hits daddy has you married off to someone!.
Listen to any folk song they're all about getting laid!.

I think it would have been better if they just had safe sex rather than getting married and pregnant at 18!.

Now that you mention it I do see it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, she IS a mormon author! LOL!. Yeah, I'm not christian so when I was reading this and they started talking about the cross and God and all that I got really uncomfortable!.

I don't like reading books (esp!. fantasy) when they bring in religion!. She didn't have to make Carlisle christian and if she did she didn't have to bring in religion---any religion in that day more than likely believed in vampires and that they were full of "sin"!.

It is mormon-ish!.

Didn't know about the whole name-blending thing!. It really annoyed me while reading because I was like "how do you pronounce that!?!?!?"

But, whatever, the whole thing'll blow over!. LOL!.

Interesting!. How so!?

1) Many religions and belief systems frown upon sex before marriage, not just Mormons!.
2) Didn't know about the name blending thing!.
3) Just because they talk about God doesn't mean it's biased!.

Thanks for answering, but I don't believe its biased!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It doesn't matter what you think!. Harry Potter pissed off a lot of Christians!. So what!. Meyer wrote her book and she has the freedom to write it how SHE wants, not what you want!. There are always going to be people offended by published work!.

Need a tissue!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

ABSOLUTELY NOT!
the author was mormon, so i wasn't surprised about any of it!.
it was great, you don't have to read into everything, not everything about it was real/true!.
don't take it too serious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

LOL what!?

I only read the first book but I saw nothing in it to do with mormonism!. I have several Mormon friends and I totally did not think of them once while reading that book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Since the author is Mormon, the only thing that I can say is, "well, duh!" Of course a Mormon author would write from a Mormon point of view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's over-hyped!. It's just another "the chosen one" or "THE ONE" story!. I also think it's dumb with all that superman esque style powers and all the over dramatic **** going on!. It irks me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

totally agree !!Www@QuestionHome@Com

wow, really!? i guess i didn't catch that, you should explain how!.!.!.but you're probably right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

ok u have no idea what ur talking aboutWww@QuestionHome@Com

I hate when people say things like this!. Why!? You don't have to read the book and you sure as hell don't have to take the message with you!.

1) What's so wrong with that message!? With teenage pregnancy becoming so common, you'd think that would be a good thing!

2) Gross!.

3) He's an immortal vampire!. You're telling me it's only because he could possibly be Mormon that this question would come up!. How many people think about this who don't have forever!?

She can write whatever she wants!. She's Mormon; she's going to write from that POV!.

Edit: Yes and I do agree wth those who say the books aren't based or riding on religion!. It's mindless fun!. A little too mindless but it's not about religion at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't really think it's super biased!.

1!. Abstinence until marriage is practiced in many churches, not just with Mormons!. I'm Catholic and we're told not to have sex until we're married!. In this case, I think she's just going with what she believes is right, Mormon or not!.

2!. Stephenie has talked about the name before!. She said that when she originally was trying to name Bella and Edward's daughter, she wanted a name that was special enough for her!. Renesmee is an extraordinary child with both human and vampire capabilities!. Stephenie didn't think there were any names that worked for her, so she put together Renesmee!.

3!. Once again, I think this is not exclusively Mormon!. This, like 1, could work for many churches!. also, I think there's always that question of whether or not God exists!. It just worked it's way into the story!. In The Simpsons, they talk about God, but that doesn't make the show religious!.

also, Edward isn't a Morman!. Edward isn't super religious!. Carlisle is, but keep in mind that his father was a pastor, so that's something he grew up with!. I think that Stephenie wasn't simply going by what was "Momonly correct!." Rather, I think she was writing about what she feels is ethically correct!.

Oh, and, if you don't like the book or you don't agree with it, you don't have to read it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I disagree!. The author is Mormon, so keeps her books on the chaste side, but I would not say they are religiously based!. Besides Edward being "bizarrely moral vampire" and the discussion of the existence of the soul, there is no reference to morality or religion!. The books never make any allusion to other aspects of religion or religious rules either!. The characters do not go to church, do not make any referrence to following any commandments, and Bella even states that her own life is "fairly devoid of belief" in the second chapter of New Moon!.

There are books that are religiously based, but I don't believe this is one of them!. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, for example, is religiously based!. In that, there is allegory to the story of Jesus and a moral lesson of right and wrong!. I have not seen anything of such nature in the Twilight series!.

**EDIT**

1) the idea of not having sex until they're properly married
-This is a social convention as much as a religious one!. My mother was raised Catholic and became agnostic, and still strove to instill this value in me!. Therefore, it is not just a Mormon teaching!. Would it be better if she had Edward and Bella consumate their marriage while unmarried and still in high school!? Even in our current society that would come under fire!.

2) the whole Renesmee Carlie thing!.!.!.!.the blending of names is big in Mormonism!.
- I have no idea if it's a big Mormon thing or not, but I would think this is a fairly weak argument!. The very fact that magazines are referring to celebrity couples are "Bennifer" "Brangelina" and "TomKat" show that the blending of names is not confined to Mormonism!.

3) the "is there a God!?" question that Edward holds onto (for example, in New Moon he was like "amazing, Carlisle was right" about having an afterlife!.)
- "Is there a God" is a question that has been asked for millenia, as is the question of the afterlife!. This isn't limited to Mormonism, but ALL theology!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That book played no part in any religion!.

I'm not so sure I know what you're talking about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
