Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Holden wanted to be the 'catcher in the rye,' as he told his sister in one of the later chapters!. He lost his own innocence, but he wants to protect other kids from losing theirs by catching them before they fall off of the cliff in the field of rye (something along those lines - I haven't read it in a while)!. However, when he's with his sister and watching her on the carousel, he realizes that "sometimes, you just have to let them fall!." (My favorite line, hence why I remember it!.) Basically, he realizes that being the 'catcher in the rye' is futile!. Growing up and losing your innocence is part of life!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
